An elegant and terroir-driven expression of the Kotsifali grape.
This exceptional red wine comes from the single vineyard Livades in the Chania region, where old Kotsifali vines, over 50 years old, provide concentration, finesse, and depth. With this wine, Nikos Karavitakis demonstrates the refinement and elegance of this indigenous grape. A style more reminiscent of Pinot Noir than a powerful Mediterranean expression.
In the glass, the wine reveals a bright ruby red color. The profile is refined and expressive, with notes of strawberry, raspberry, cherry, and pomegranate, complemented by subtle herbal nuances of thyme, lavender, and a light earthiness.
On the palate, the wine is juicy and elegant, with a medium body, lively acidity, and soft, well-integrated tannins. The red fruit takes center stage, supported by delicate spiciness and a fine structure, providing balance and a fresh, lingering finish.
Vinification is carried out with respect for the grape variety and its origin , using indigenous yeasts and gentle extraction. The wine then matures for approximately 10 months in used 500-liter oak Stockinger barrels , allowing the wood aging to remain subtle and add structure and depth, without overpowering the fruit. The result is a pure, authentic wine, in which terroir and elegance take center stage.
Food pairing: delicious with grilled red meat, lamb dishes, game, spicy Mediterranean dishes and mature cheeses.
