An elegant and terroir-driven expression of the Kotsifali grape.
This exceptional red wine comes from the single vineyard of Livades in the Chania region, where old Kotsifali vines, over 50 years old, provide concentration, finesse, and depth. With this wine, Nikos Karavitakis demonstrates how refined and elegant this indigenous grape can be. A style that is more reminiscent of a Pinot Noir than a powerful Mediterranean expression.
In the glass, the wine shows a bright ruby red color. The profile is refined and expressive, with notes of strawberry, raspberry, cherry, and pomegranate, complemented by subtle spicy nuances of thyme, lavender, and a slight earthy touch.
On the palate, the wine is juicy and elegant, with a medium body, lively acidity, and soft, well-integrated tannins. The red fruit takes center stage and is supported by delicate spiciness and a fine structure, ensuring balance and a fresh, lingering finish.
The vinification respects the grape and its origin, using indigenous yeasts and gentle extraction. The wine then matures for approximately 10 months in used 500-liter Stockinger oak barrels, ensuring that the oak aging remains subtle and primarily adds structure and depth without overpowering the fruit. The result is a pure, authentic wine, where terroir and elegance are central.
Food pairing: delicious with grilled red meat, lamb dishes, game, spicy Mediterranean dishes, and aged cheeses.
