A legendary tradition with a modern twist. If you've ever been to a wedding in Crete, you've likely encountered Marouvas—a powerful, oxidative wine in the style of sherry or Madeira. This Liastos from Karavitakis is an exceptional, sweet expression of the Romeiko grape, made from overripe grapes dried in the sun for 14 days. The wine is then aged for at least three years in oak barrels and at least another three years in bottle, developing unprecedented depth and complexity.
In the glass, an amber-red color. The aroma is intense and opulent with notes of hazelnut, nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon, toffee, honey, orange peel, date, apricot jam, and coffee. The palate is rich, smooth, and full-bodied, with an oily texture, high acidity, and a lingering finish full of caramel, spices, dried fruit, and bergamot.
A unique wine that takes you to the heart of Crete – warm, complex and absolutely unforgettable.
Serve slightly chilled (10–12°C) in a small glass.
Perfect with: blue cheese, walnut tart, dark chocolate, fig tart or simply as a meditation wine after dinner.
