Douloufakis - Grand Reserve - Liatiko
The Liatiko grape is one of the Douloufakis family's favorite red grapes and comes from old private vineyards in the village of Dafnes, Crete. The vineyards are located at an altitude of approximately 300 meters, where the finest grapes are carefully selected for this wine.
Vinification:
The grapes undergo a careful vinification process. After separating the pulp, the wine remains in tank for another two months. Then, the wine undergoes debourbage, after which it is transferred to French oak barrels for 18 months of aging. After bottling, the wine matures for another 30 months before being released in September 2024. This wine has the potential to age for at least ten years, allowing its complexity to further develop.
Tasting notes:
The wine has a deep ruby red color with brown nuances, the result of five years of aging. The aromatic bouquet is rich and complex, with notes of rosemary, blackcurrant, and spice, as well as subtle hints of leather in the background. On the palate, the wine offers an excellent balance of sweetness, acidity, and tannins. The ripe fruit, well-integrated acidity, and finely crafted tannins create an impressive flavor experience and a particularly long finish.
This wine pairs perfectly with cooked meats such as braised beef, grilled meats like T-bone steak, game, or aged cheeses. Its depth and structure make it a good match for rich dishes.
Serving temperature:
Serve the Liatiko at 16-18°C to fully develop its complexity and aromas.
